GLP-1 medications like Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) are transforming weight management in the UK. But while these medications can be powerful tools, they work best when combined with the right nutritional support. Why nutrition matters so much on GLP-1 medications
GLP-1 receptor agonists work by suppressing appetite, slowing gastric emptying, and improving insulin sensitivity. This means you'll eat significantly less, which sounds ideal for weight loss, but comes with a real nutritional challenge: when you're eating much less, every mouthful has to count.
Without proper guidance, many people on these medications fall into patterns of eating very little, choosing easy but nutritionally poor foods, and - most importantly - losing significant amounts of muscle mass alongside fat. Research shows that up to 40% of weight lost on GLP-1 medications can come from muscle, not fat. This has serious implications for your metabolism, strength, and long-term weight management.
